Salary range:
$19.00-$21.65

Job Summary:
The Community Economic and Empowerment Services (CEES) Childcare and Education Specialist provides direct childcare for children ages 4 months to 12 years, supporting families enrolled in our housing programs who have experienced domestic violence, human trafficking/exploitation, or sexual violence. This role enables parents to participate in critical programming and services offered at the Cornerstone Offices and in community-based settings. The Specialist uses trauma-informed, survivor-centered, and culturally responsive approaches to support both individual family members and the family unit as a whole. Responsibilities include planning and leading creative, age-appropriate activities in a safe and nurturing environment that fosters care, enjoyment, and learning. The Specialist also engages in group facilitation, field trips, family intakes, goal planning, one-on-one sessions, and referrals to community resources. In addition, this role supports families with school enrollment, including early education access, special education services, IEP support, and academic assistance. The Specialist is responsible for maintaining a clean, welcoming, and inclusive childcare space; ensuring the safety of children; accurately documenting services provided; and assisting with supervising interns and volunteers.
Services are delivered in the office, in the community, and at partner sites. The schedule includes daytime, evening, and weekend hours to meet participants’ needs. This is a unionized position, with a flexible hybrid work option available after 90 days of employment.

Essential Functions

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Essential responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
  • Provide consistent and regular contact with parents/caregivers and families through one- on-one sessions, community visits, family sessions, and support groups.
  • Plan and implement arts and crafts, games, music and other recreational activities.
  • Assist children to develop safe and appropriate ways of interacting and expressing their feelings.
  • Work with parents/caregivers to create an educational plan and ensure school enrollment/attendance.
  • Update and maintain pre-school, elementary, middle, and high school information and resources.
  • Establish relationships with school staff including homeless liaisons, school social workers, principals, and teachers.
  • Provide resources to access academic assistance services and referrals along with easily accessible public study spaces.
  • Collaborates with Advocates, in providing wraparound advocacy services for families participating in our other programming to provide comprehensive support for the entire family unit.
  • Utilizes available learning opportunities/tools during down time including readings, webinars, and other forms of materials to enhance learning and skills.
  • Participates in the training and mentoring of new staff, volunteers and/or students as assigned.
  • Create and maintain learning and play space to keep a safe, fun, and clean space for families to be together.
  • Maintains, inventories, and stocks outside and inside storage areas for children and youth items.
  • Completes other duties as assigned by supervisor that support overall program objectives and services to victim/survivors. 
Experience/Qualifications  
Minimum of 1-2 years of experience working with children and youth in advocacy, childcare or other related settings. Experience working with children and youth who have witnessed or experienced trauma is preferred. Knowledge and experience in working with diverse, marginalized and underrepresented communities, and anti-oppression work. A bachelor’s degree in child development/early education, psychology, social work or related field or experience in the social service field are a plus.

 
  • Ability to work in individual and group settings with children and youth of all ages, parents, and the family as a unit.
  • Experience providing direct services and advocacy to individuals and families experiencing domestic violence, sexual violence, and/or human trafficking using a survivor-centered and trauma-informed approach.
  • Knowledge of pre-school, elementary, and high school enrollment, Homeless McKinney Vento Act and school liaison and transportation processes.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in team settings.
  • Strong communication skills. Fluency in another language is a plus.
  • Knowledge of and aptitude with Microsoft Office, web-based applications, and other related forms of technology.
  • Valid driver’s license, insurance and reliable vehicle are required for this role.
